Collection: Asya Yakovlieva

I work with graphics, sculpture, beads, and textiles. In my practice, I explore themes of violence, corporeality, and vulnerability, transforming and reflecting on them through playful, ironic visual symbols, often with phallic allusions. I am interested in how the act of decorating and embellishing can become a tool for expressing the cruel, the traumatic, the unbearable. I combine painful and vulnerable topics with irony, playfulness, and naivety, creating tension between form and content.

I use corporeality as a visual language, linking physiological processes with emotions: the process of absorption — with the negative emotional spectrum, the process of release — with the positive.
